Thomas Deacon Academy - Learner Support Fund – Year 3 – Year 13
1 Eligibility
To be eligible for a grant from the Learner Support Fund the student/s must be:
- in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM) or Pupil Premium (PP)
- on roll in Year 3 – 13 in the academic year in which the grant will be processed
- have good attendance
2 What For?
- Assistance with the purchase of school uniform.
- Assistance with school trip costs.
- Assistance with Duke of Edinburgh costs.
- Assistance with any other essential costs, as determined by the panel (see below).
3 Who is eligible?
All year 3 – 13 students in receipt of FSM or PP are eligible. Those affected by extreme or difficult personal circumstances may be considered by the panel (see below).
4 How will payments happen?
School uniform will be supplied by the Academy approved supplier: Chromasport on receipt of instructions by the panel.
Parents/carers of students in receipt of FSM or PP will be advised of the availability of financial assistance for school trips, Duke of Edinburgh and other costs by their house or Year group leader during induction. Requests for assistance must be in writing, addressed to The Principal and will be considered by the appropriate remissions panel (EGa). Parents/carers will be advised by letter or email of the financial assistance agreed by Mrs Gaunt, copies of which will be forwarded to Finance to arrange the transfer of the funds. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ITEMS IN ADVANCE OF THE WRITTEN AGREEMENT OR AUTHORISATION OF THE FUNDS. WE ARE UNABLE TO REFUND OR COMPENSATE FOR ITEMS ALREADY PURCHASED.
Emily Gaunt, Acting Principal of TDA is the budget holder for the Learner Support Fund and will monitor the expenditure accordingly.
5 Process
Parents/carers of students in receipt of FSM/PP will be advised of the Learner Support Fund on a needs basis.
Completed applications forms will be processed on demand. Please see attached form below.
Applications will be considered by the appropriate panel (as above) on demand.
If the parents/carers are unhappy with the decision of the panel they may appeal using the Academy’s complaints procedure.
